The Olea Crossbody and Wristlet is a versatile bag pattern that comes in 2 sizes, each featuring a unique pleated front detail with the option for a solid front. Designed for both vinyl and woven fabrics, your choice of material can easily transform the bag from a casual everyday look to a dressier look. Both sizes can be worn as a crossbody, while the small size also features an optional wristlet strap!

Fabric Requirements

 

Exterior:

  • Small Size, Vinyl/Faux Leather: (1) 12” or 18” roll of vinyl/faux leather (56” WOF)

  • Small Size, Waterproof Canvas or Canvas: 1/3 yard (56” WOF)

  • Large Size, Vinyl/Faux Leather: (1) 18” roll of vinyl/faux leather (56” WOF)

  • Large Size, Waterproof Canvas or Canvas: 1/2 yard (56” WOF)

 

Lining:

  • Small Size, Cotton Woven: 12” x 44” WOF

  • Large Size, Cotton Woven: 18” x 44” WOF (if you are also making the optional exterior zipper pocket you will need 20” x 44” WOF)

 

 

Interfacing/Stabilizer

  • Woven Interfacing (ie. SF101):

    • Small Size: 1 yard (20” WOF)

    • Large Size: 1 1/2 yards (20” WOF) (if you are also making the optional exterior zipper pocket, you will need 1 2/3 yards x 20” WOF)

  • Gusset Stabilizer (foam, non-fusible or 1-sided fusible):

    • Small Size: 2” x 16” piece

    • Large Size: 3.5” x 22” piece

  • Scraps of Decovil Light Stabilizer (if using Vinyl/Faux Leather):

    • Small Size: 1” x 2.25” piece for D-Ring Connectors; 6.5” x 1.5” piece for optional exterior zipper pocket

    • Large Size: 2” x 2.5” piece for D-Ring Connectors; 8.5” x 1.5” piece for optional exterior zipper pocket

 

Hardware

  • #5 Zipper Tape for main closure: 11” for Small Size; 14” for Large Size

  • #5 Zipper Tape for EACH zipper pocket: 7” for Small Size; 9” for Large Size

  • (2-3) #5 Zipper Pulls (1 for main closure, 1 for interior zipper pocket, 1 for optional exterior zipper pocket)

  • (2) Medium (8mm) Rivets (For D-Ring connectors)

  • (2) D-Rings: 1/2” for Small Size; 1” for Large Size

  • (1) Zipper End (optional, instructions are included for self-made zipper end)

  • STRAP OPTIONS:

  • Adjustable Webbing Crossbody Strap Option (Use with Small Size or Large Size):

    • 56” of 1” Webbing

    • (2) 1” Swivel Hooks

    • (1) 1” Strap Slider

  • Adjustable Self-Made 1” (Standard) Crossbody Strap Option (Large Size):

    • (2) 1” Swivel Hooks

    • (1) 1” Strap Slider (Note: A wide mouth strap slider is recommended for vinyl/faux leather)

    • (2) Medium (8mm) Rivets

    • (2) 1” Strap Ends (optional for vinyl/faux leather strap)

  • Adjustable Self-Made 1/2” (Narrow) Crossbody Strap Option (Small Size):

    • (2) 1/2” Swivel Hooks

    • (1) 1/2” Strap Slider (Note: A tall strap slider is recommended for vinyl/faux leather)

    • (2) Medium (8mm) Rivets

  • Wristlet Strap Option (Only for Small Size):

    • (2) 1/2” Swivel Hooks

    • (2) Medium (8mm) Rivets

 

 

Other Materials

  • 1/8” or 1/4” Double Sided Tape (DST) (1/8” preferred for some steps)

  • Marking Pen

  • Rivet Setting Tool

  • Lighter (for polyester/nylon webbing) or fabric glue (ie. fray check) (for cotton/jacquard webbing) to seal webbing edges

  • Edge Paint (optional)

  • Rubber mallet, hammer, or pliers

  • Hump Jumper

 

 

SKILL LEVEL

The Olea is categorized as an intermediate bag pattern but can be sewn by an adventurous beginner who is familiar with basic sewing terms. There is a full video sew along included with the pattern for visual learners and those who prefer a little more detail about sewing bags.

 

** This bag can be sewn on any sewing machine that is capable of sewing vinyl. Fabric/Vinyl choices will influence the difficulty of sewing. There is bulk at the D-Ring Connectors and pleats due to multiple layers of fabric. Strategies to help with bulk are indicated in the top stitching step. **
